Every engagement is tailored

There are no packages, no price list and no standard rates. Organisations differ in what they need, what they already have and who is available to work with us, so each engagement is shaped to fit.

We work with startups building their first technical foundations, small businesses, growing businesses and organisations that have their own IT departments. What they ask for differs a great deal. A startup may need to make its first technology decisions without hiring full time: see startup IT support. A larger organisation may want a specialist alongside its own team for a hard problem. The sections below set out the main ways to work with us. Capability areas are listed on the services page.

Projects

A project is a defined piece of work with a start and an end: a new network, a Microsoft 365 migration, a cloud environment, an integration between two systems. We agree the scope, the approach and how the work is charged before work begins. Typical work covers requirements, design, build, testing, documentation and hand-over; which of these apply, and what is documented, is agreed in the scope.

Examples of subjects: network infrastructure, Microsoft 365 and Azure, infrastructure engineering and systems integration.

Assessment and advice

Where a decision or a risk needs a clear view, an assessment gives you one. We review the environment, test our understanding against what is actually configured and tell you what we found, what matters most and what to change first. Where it is agreed in the scope, that comes as a formal written report.

Assessments can cover a network, an infrastructure estate, a Microsoft 365 tenant, access and configuration, or the plan for a change you are considering. See also security and compliance and data infrastructure.

Prototypes and proofs of concept

Before committing to a full build, it can be cheaper to find out whether an approach works. A prototype or proof of concept tests one specific question: can these two systems exchange this data, will this design meet the performance need, does the user experience hold up. It is built to answer the question and then be kept, extended or discarded. See systems integration.

Tier 3 escalation

When your IT team or supplier meets a difficult fault and needs additional expertise, we work alongside them to find the cause. This is not an emergency service, and it comes with no guaranteed availability or response times. The full explanation is on Tier 3 escalation and advanced troubleshooting.

Continuing support

Some organisations want us to carry on after a project, or to keep an eye on an environment. This is arranged individually for selected organisations where it suits both sides. It is never a condition of project work. See continuing support.

How engagements are agreed

Engagements are agreed in one of four ways, depending on the work:

  • Fixed project quotations for work whose scope can be defined.
  • Daily consultancy arrangements where the work is exploratory or the scope will change.
  • Bespoke ongoing support agreements, tailored to the organisation.
  • Individually agreed technical investigations for faults whose size is not known at the start.

The basis of the work and how it is charged are agreed with you before it starts. There are no mandatory retainers.

Hardware and software

Equipment and licences can be handled in whichever way suits you. We may source and supply hardware, software and licences. We can configure equipment you have bought yourself, implement products you have chosen directly, and work with your existing suppliers. Our recommendations are based on your technical requirements, business needs and the suitability of the available solutions.

Where and how we work

We are based in West Wales and work across the UK and internationally.

  • Remotely, which suits most investigation, design and configuration work.
  • On site within the UK, for installation, surveys and work that needs us in the building.
  • Remotely for international clients.
  • On site internationally where appropriate and agreed, with travel and accommodation costs agreed with you in advance.

Larger projects

Some projects need a wider range of skills, or more hands than one workstream allows. For these we may engage and manage additional specialists, work alongside engineers you provide, collaborate with your third-party suppliers or provide consultancy within a wider delivery team. We agree who is doing what before work starts.

Experience behind the work

Our work draws on more than 20 years of professional experience across enterprise infrastructure, cloud, networking, security and data infrastructure.
